Minecraft MOTD generator
The MOTD is the two lines under your server's name in the multiplayer list. Write it with colors, check the live preview, then paste the result into server.properties.
Write your MOTD
Click a code to insert it where your cursor is. Codes start with &. A color code resets bold, italic and the rest.
Live preview
Open server.properties, replace the whole motd= line with this, save, and restart the server.
Minecraft color and formatting codes
Minecraft uses the section sign § followed by one character. Most plugins and this tool let you type & instead, and the generator converts it for you.

FAQ
Why do I see weird characters like § on my server?
That happens when the file was saved with the wrong encoding. Use the server.properties output above: it writes the section sign as §, which always works.
How long can a MOTD be?
The server list shows two lines. About 45 characters per line fit at the default window size; longer text gets cut off.
Does this work on Bedrock servers?
Bedrock Dedicated Server uses server-name in server.properties for the text shown in the list, and it supports the same color codes on one line.
